A dynamic university city and sea port, Aveiro is popularly known as
"The Portuguese Venice" because of its many canals and Gondolas which navigate them.
Aveiro has many restaurants to enjoy traditional Portuguese food,
most typically the seafood.
Stroll arround the city to find the central market,
situated downtown near the canals.
Also Aveiro Cathedral.
The city has a museum,
Museu de Aveiro which occupies the building of the former Convent of Jesus,
and houses a collection of relegious artefacts mainly from the "Convent of Jesus"
but also from other religious buildings within the city and througout the country.
The city also has a number of parks, namely the Santo Antonio Park, Dom Pedro Children's Park.
However you must leave the suburbs to discover the real charm of Aveiro
which lies in its nearby coast.
Aviero has some fantastic sandy beaches eg Costa Nova Beach.
Getting to Aveiro
Nearest airport Porto airport. Take the
metro
to the center of Aviero.
Alternatively take a
bus from airport or nearby towns.
Aiero also has
train connection. There is a regular service to Lisbon.
